Gator frightens, fascinates mobile home community
DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) -- An 8-foot alligator has several residents of a South Florida neighborhood on edge and community members filled with intrigue.
According to Everglades Lakes mobile community resident Joe Libby, alligators have been wandering around this neighborhood for years. "There is 12 known, supposedly, in here," he said. "They had the state come out and track them down and that's what they found."
On Wednesday afternoon, the massive 8-footer was spotted laying about a neighborhood lake's bank. "They come up every once in a while, when the water is cold they come up to get the heat," explained Joe Libby. "They really haven't bothered anybody and the only reason they will remove them is if they bother somebody."
Residents like Kristen Weiser are worried about the safety of their four-legged family members. "I have a small kitten, and I know that there are pets in the area, too, so that is a concern," she said.
While the gators might seem like a nuisance to most, for some residents of this community, they are intriguing specimens. "I've never seen anybody ever bother them and they've never bothered anybody else," said a resident. "I kind of like looking at them; they are fascinating animals."
