Restaurant break-in has owner watching web cam

PINECREST, Fla. (WSVN) -- A Miami-Dade restaurant repeatedly burglarized now has the owner watching a web cam late at night. He hopes the public can help police catch the crooks, so he can rest easier.

"It happened twice," said Caesar Berrones, owner of the Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant. Surveillance video from the two burglaries are probably the best weapon police have in trying to solve these crimes.

Twice hit, twice shy, Berrones said he now gets up at night to watch his restaurant on surveillance over the Internet. "I have surveillance. I have it through the Internet," he said. "I'll get up in the middle of the night to see if anybody is in there."

His nerves peaked after the first of two times thieves ripped him off.

Article ImageOn Nov. 14, surveillance video captured a masked robber trying to pry open his register. It proves too difficult, so he made off with the entire thing. "First time they broke the door down, and he took the register," Berrones said.

Two weeks later, on Nov. 29, Berrones suffered another robbery. Surveillance cameras caught this robber trying to open the register. "The second time they broke in, they pried it open with a screwdriver, and they saw there was nothing in there, so they took the TV off the wall," Berrones said.

By day, the hole and the wires are still there where the TV was ripped off. The robbers got in by smashing the glass door, during the latest robbery.

Berrones hopes the videos will help bring in the tips to bring these restaurant robbers to justice. "Hopefully, somebody will recognize them and call Miami-Dade Police," he said.

If you know anything about this case, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
