Marine fights for his life after hit-and-run
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A marine is clinging to life in the hospital after a hit-and-run crash Friday morning.
The family of William Alfonso is distraught to know that after three years of fighting in Iraq, Alfonso would injure himself in the streets of South Florida. "As a Marine who served our country, he's a fighter, a survivor, and my children and I are expecting him to come home," said Patra Alfonso, his wife.
On Friday evening, Alfonso was hit by a car while he rode his motorcycle on Southwest Eighth Street and 64th Court. The driver of the vehicle, a female, left the scene, but came back to help briefly after. "She parked, and then she walked up to the scene, and the paramedics were telling everyone to move and to clear out the way," said Joaquin Iglesias, a witness.
Alfonse, the father of two small children is listed in critical condition. His children are still unaware of what happened to their dad. "He's a great Marine. He's a great father. He's a great citizen," said Elena Aleman, Alfonso's aunt.
