Officer shoots driver during traffic stop
MIAMI (AP) -- Authorities say a Miami-Dade police officer shot and injured a man who tried to run him over with a vehicle.
The Miami-Dade Police Department reports that the officer attempted to pull over the vehicle for a traffic stop Thursday night. After initially refusing to stop, the driver eventually pulled over. When the officer got out of his patrol car, the driver accelerated and hit the officer. The officer shot the driver, causing the vehicle to stop.
The driver, who has not been identified, was airlifted to a Miami trauma center. His condition was not known. A passenger in the vehicle was held for questioning. The officer was taken to a nearby hospital for a minor leg injury and was in stable condition.
