Missing woman found dead in car that crashed into canal
SUNRISE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have determined that the body of an elderly woman found inside a car at the bottom of canal is that of a woman reported missing on Tuesday night.
Sunrise police arrived at the scene of a car found submerged in a canal Wednesday afternoon. Investigators determined the green, four-door Dodge Stratus belonged to 91-year-old Dorothea Langholtz, which happened to be located near the clubhouse where Langholtz was last seen, the night before.
Police confirmed the victim was Langholtz, after her daughter travelled from Pittsburgh, Pa., to identify the body found in her car.
Sunrise police and fire rescue crews established a command post at 9400 Sunrise Lakes Blvd., near the bank of a canal where someone noticed the submerged car Wednesday afternoon.
Police deployed dive teams to investigate the scene and worked to remove the car.
Langholtz had been playing cards with friends in the clubhouse at 9361 Sunrise Lakes Boulevard and was headed home to her condo in the 8000 Block of Sunrise Lakes Drive North. She left at 9:30 pm Tuesday and was not seen alive again.
