Fight in school bathroom leaves student slashed

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- A teenage student is recovering after he was slashed in the face by another student.

The 13-year-old boy's face was left permanently scarred by a classmate armed with box-cutter at Linda Lentin K-8 Center. "You know, it was my son's beautiful face and almost takes his life because he's angry?" said Jennifer Lenchner, the victim's mother.

The victim was the target of bullies, after an altercation turned from a fist fight into a slashing during tutoring class on Saturday. The two saw each other again in a school bathroom on Monday and squared off. "There were kids inside the bathroom. The girls were like outside watching it," said the boy.

The victim said he didn't realize the other boy was armed or that he'd even been cut. "I was crying just like, praying," he said.

The victim suffered a four-inch gash to his left jaw, just inches from his jugular vein. He was rushed to the hospital.

The attacker was charged with aggravated battery and was placed in a 10-day suspension, with a likely expulsion. "The young man was charged with a felony as well as the administrative sanctions that will accompany that," said Miami-Dade School Police Chief Charles Hurley.

The single, unemployed mother of the victim is worried of how she will pay for her son's medical bill or where to send him to school. "He packed it, brought it, planned it. Something bad really could've happened out of this," said Lenchner, referring to her son's attacker.
