MIAMI (WSVN) -- Fourteen tourists are recovering in a South Florida hospital after they were injured during a cruise ship excursion in the Caribbean.

A bus lost control Monday and veered into ditch while out on a Caribbean cooking adventure where local culinary experts were supposed to show the tourists how to prepare local food on the small island nation of Dominica. A total of 16 people were injured in the crash.

Five of the injured received treatment at a local hospital, and the other 11 were sent to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami on two private jets with injuries ranging from broken bones to bumps and bruises.

"We are the only level one trauma close enough to the Caribbean, and we have all the resources in place not only professionally but the infrastructure to really provide the highest quality care for the immediate time to these patients," said a JMH spokesperson.

The tourists were on the Celebrity Summit cruise ship. They are expected to arrive at Miami International Airport sometime between 7 and 8 p.m. tonight where they will then be transported to JMH.

Dan Hanrahan, President and Chief Executive officer of Celebrity Cruises issued this statement: "Our thoughts and prayers are with our injured guests and their families. We'll continue to do our very best to assist them in the aftermath of this unfortunate accident."
