Thousands of bees removed from backyard
DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) -- The South Florida family who were practically living in a bee hive received help from a generous exterminator Thursday.
According to officials, almost 50,000 bees were living in the backyard of Southwest 133rd Avenue and Sixth Court. Jeanie and Melvin Gordon started hearing the buzzing sound in January.
On Thursday, Willie the Bee Man was called to bust a hole in the wall to reach the hive. Willie removed the bees' work from the walls and the fruits of their labor: honey. "This is a part of the honey, right in here, the honeycomb, and you can see the honey," said Willie.
Willie performed the job, which would have normally cost about $500, free of charge when the family called the Davie Police Department to complain about the bees and said they could not afford an exterminator. "You just feel like you want to cry to know that you do have people that want to come out to help like the Davie Police and Willie the Bee Man. They are just great," said Gordon.
A few bees were left behind, but since the hive has been removed, they all are expected to go away.
