Tourist talks about robbery at hotel

CUTLER BAY, Fla. (WSVN) -- One of two tourists from Wyoming is speaking about finding themselves in a real tourist trap after they were robbed by who they first thought was a Good Samaritan.
Jamie Dakis, 53, and Randall Carlson, 58, who happens to be legally blind, were returning from Key West when they found themselves lost, and a stranger, later identified as Leon Spruill, offered to help them.
The man took the two to a Best Western Hotel near Caribbean Boulevard, in Cutler Bay. The two friends checked in, and Spruill left.
Spruill allegedly then returned with two other men and broke into the pair's hotel room, taking everything they had-- including their rental car. "They tore out all of the wires out of the phones," said Dakis, "tied us up, said they were going to kill us, asked where all of our money was."
Police were able to catch up to Spruill using the GPS tracking system in the rental car. He is being charged with burglary, assault, kidnapping and car jacking.
Officials are still looking for his two accomplices. One suspect, who has not been identified, is a male, 55 years old, standing 5 feet 7 inches, weighing 160 pounds and was last seen dressed all in white. The other suspect is also a male, nicknamed "Sporty," about 60 years old, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with short hair and was last seen wearing a baseball cap.
No one was injured during the incident. However, rescue crews transported Dakis to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. The hospital said employees were able to raise $110 to help the couple out, seeing as the crooks took all the funds they had on them.
If you have any information on the other two suspects, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
