MIAMI (WSVN) -- A man has been arrested after, authorities said, he opened fire inside his home and shot his wife and stepdaughter.

Miami Police responded to the scene of 404 NW 43 St. around 9:00 a.m. Saturday. According to police, Nicolas Valdez shot his wife Wendy Valdez, 37, and her daughter Yabesis Abad, 15, several times. Miami Police officer Willie Moreno said the man went on a rampage because his victims teased him. "He was fed up, he couldn't take it any more, and he discharged his weapon, striking both of them multiple times," said Moreno.

Miami Fire Rescue transported the the two victims to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where they received treatment for their wounds. The mother needed surgery and is still listed as critical. The daughter is in stable condition.

The man's family believes the economic crisis has led to problems with finances that might have caused this disruption. "Because he is not like that. Maybe a situation, an economic situation, where the whole family is arguing about money," Sara Valdez said.

Police said Valdez's two young children were also at the home during the shooting. They were not harmed.

Valdez now faces attempted murder charges.
