MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A high-speed pursuit by police ended with a driver crashing into a carport of a home Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, detectives had been following two subjects in a Pontiac but later decided to call off the chase and let them go. The vehicle kept on going on a high rate of speed, lost control and crashed into a tree then slid under a carport of a house, located at Northwest 184th Street and 42nd Avenue. "Police attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle took off at a high speed. Following procedures, the detective let the vehicle go," said Miami Gardens Police Capt. Ralph Suarez.

The suspects then fled the scene on foot but were later caught by K-9 units. The suspects were taken to Ryder Trauma Center with serious injures.

The 79-year-old home owner was not inside the house at the time of the accident. She will not be able to stay at the home for several days.

Police are investigating the scene.
