Officials temporarily ban sex offenders from South Florida neighborhood

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- South Florida officials are taking action against sexual predators living in one Broward County neighborhood.

Broward County commissioners managed to temporarily ban the convicted sex offenders for the next 90 days from living within 2,500 feet of Broadview Park, a place where kids often go to play.

Five percent of all convicted sex offenders in Broward County live in this unincorporated neighborhood. "Ladies and gentlemen, I am certain that you have all good intentions, but please think carefully about the possible outcome of placing thousands of sex offenders with nothing left to lose on the streets," said James Chapman.

The county commissioners agreed to create a task force to find a long-term solution. Governor Charlie Crist has also been asked to help.
