Turnpike gas pipe blast spews debris, causes crash

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (WSVN) -- The Florida Turnpike in Martin County had to be closed after a natural gas pipeline near the highway exploded.

According to authorities, the eruption sent debris into the air early Monday morning and caused a vehicle to careen off the road and into a ditch.

The Turnpike was closed in both directions while crews repaired the gas line.

The driver who crashed only had minor injuries.
