Nun on run falls short of 100-mile goal

Nun on run falls short of 100-mile goal

MARATHON, Fla. (AP) -- A New Jersey nun could not complete an effort to run 100 miles on the Florida Keys Overseas Highway in her calf-length black habit.

Sixty-year-old Sister Mary Elizabeth Lloyd said stomach ailments kept her from finishing the full KEYS100 race from Key Largo to Key West. She had to quit near Marathon late Saturday, after completing 40 miles.

The Morristown, N.J., nun says she was not disappointed she didn't finish because her mission of raising awareness for orphans of AIDS worldwide was accomplished

In honor of Lloyd, fellow team racer Brittni Radford went on to complete the 100 miles, crossing the finish line late Sunday morning.

About 275 runners competed in the weekend race.
