Police arrest 2 of 3 burglary suspects

PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have arrested two burglary suspects and continue to search for a third robber still on the run.

Plantation and Sunrise Police worked together using K-9s and officers on foot with guns drawn near the Motorola Facility located in the area of Sunrise Boulevard and University Drive in Plantation, Wednesday afternoon, as they hunted for the burglary suspects who were believed armed. Authorities set up a perimeter around the facility, which had to be temporarily locked down.

Police soon captured two of the suspects. One of them had emerged from a canal in the area. Seven Skyforce captured that suspect as he fled into a neighborhood in the area of Northwest 24th Street and 85th Avenue. Police soon took him down.

According to police, the men were involved in an attempted burglary in Jacaranda Lakes. Police caught the suspects still trying to take items out of Josephine DiBenedetto's home after a neighbor had noticed a suspicious car outside the home and called 911.

As police arrived on the scene, the suspects fled in a red vehicle, but that quickly came to an end when the driver crashed the vehicle into a light pole behind the Motorola Facility. They bailed out and fled on foot. The driver is believed to be still at large.

DiBenedetto arrived at her home as police were documenting the ransacked aftermath. "There's jewelery on the floor. They went through my jewelery, my closets," she said.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of the third suspect, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
