South Florida congress members return home after trip to Haiti

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A bi-partisan delegation of South Florida congress members are now back home after visiting Haiti to see firsthand what help the island nation needs.
Monday, Kendrick Meek (D.), Mario and Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R.), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R.)and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D.), all members of the House of Representatives on Capitol Hill, flew to Haiti for the day on a fact-finding mission.
The delegation, led by Meek, met with members of the Haitian government. "We talked about a number of issues that Haiti is facing and the progress that they have made, and the resources that the international community has invested in Haiti," said Miami Rep. Kendrick Meek.
The South Florida congress members discussed hurricane preparedness, poverty and crime with the government.
The trip comes one year after hurricanes ravaged the country, and one month after a boat capsized off the coast of Boynton Beach killing nine Haitian migrants.
