Toddler hospitalized after go-cart accident
MIRAMAR, Fla. (WSVN) -- A toddler is recovering at the hospital after a mishap on a go-cart.
The 2-year-old girl was riding with her father when witnesses said she fell out of it along Southwest 139th Avenue and 41st Street, Thursday evening at around 5 p.m.
Rescue crews airlifted the child to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital where she received five stitches to her head.
Though the injuries the girl suffered were classified as "serious," her grandfather was grateful they were not any worse. "She has a little cut on her head, five stitches. She will be staying at the hospital overnight, but she is doing fine," said grandfather Sergio Gonzales.
Earlier this week, a 13-year-old boy driving a motorized go-cart on the street died in a collision with a sport utility vehicle on Northeast 199th Street and 11th Avenue in Miami-Dade. It is illegal in Florida to drive a motorized go-cart on public roads.
