Police arrest man suspected of leaving horses to starve
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Police have made an arrest in a case of animal cruelty against some abandoned and starving horses at a Miramar ranch.
Miami-Dade Police arrested 59-year-old Jose Winston Posada Saturday at Miami International Airport as the ranch owner stepped off a plane from Colombia.
Police took Posada into custody and charged him with seven counts of felony animal cruelty.
Ten days ago, investigators found six emaciated horses and a mule on Posada's ranch, located near Miramar Parkway and Flamingo Road in Miramar.
The South Florida Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty rescued the animals but two had to be put down.
Investigators said it appeared the animals had not been fed in days, though feed was found on the property.
It remains unclear at this point why the animals where left abandoned and without food.
