Drivers tackle flooded South Florida streets
OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (WSVN) -- The afternoon rain caused some heavy flooding in several South Florida neighborhoods Friday.
Two Oakland Park Storm Water Division pump trucks responded to the area of Northeast Third Avenue and 43rd Street to try to help get rid of some of the water, which flooded the streets.
Some attempted to drive through the flooded street but couldn't make it to the other side. "So many times in TV I've seen cars drive where it's too deep, and the announcer says, 'Please don't drive if the water is too deep,' but I said, I would never do such a thing, and sure enough here I am, I've done it anyway," said Ann Vomasic. A Good Samaritan stopped to help Vomasic who was waiting for a tow truck.
High waters caused Jerome Yerich to bail out of his car, a 1999 Rolls Royce, he was on his way home from the repair shop. "The battery is in the trunk, so the wiring must be under the car and that got wet. I'm waiting for AAA," Yerich said.
Officials are warning drivers not to drive in water if you cannot see the road below.
