Family demands answers after mother goes into coma after liposuction

WESTON, Fla. (WSVN) -- A mother of three is in a coma after undergoing liposuction, and her family is demanding answers.
Rohie Orukaton, a registered nurse at Palmetto General decided to do a cosmetic procedure Friday at Weston's MedSpa. Her family said she went in for liposuction performed by Dr. Omar Brito.
Joseph Orukaton, Rohie's stepson, began to break down because the mother he knows and loves is suffering. "My father is handling it the best that he can, but he's breaking down too. My little sister, she's the closest to my mom," said Joseph.
"She went for a minor procedure at the spa, and something bad went wrong. Now Rohie, a mother of three, is brain dead," Oking Habib said.
Rohie currently lies in a coma at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston. "The information we learned so far is that she had a seizure or multiple seizures shortly after the procedure," Consumer Justice Attorney Michael Freedland said.
Tania Hines is a longtime customer at the MedSpa, and she said she has had several procedures there and has never had any problems. "I would have and was considering liposuction. I don't know what happened to the lady, but sometimes when we do something to our bodies, it causes an adverse reaction," said Hines.
Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed that the mother of three went to MedSpa to have liposuction, but what happened inside during the procedure is still unknown.
No one at MedSpa wanted to comment.
The family wants answers as they get ready to decide if and when to cut off their mom's life support. "We plan on finding out what happened, why it happened and who is responsible," Freedland said.
