MIAMI (WSVN) -- The Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust and a renowned South Florida artist have joined forces to introduce an innovative way for residents to help in the fight against homelessness.

Romero Britto has designed parking meters, which will be installed in several areas throughout downtown to collect cash for the cause. They were unveiled during the partnership's announcement at the historic Alfred I. DuPont building early Thursday.

There are plans to make large money collectors that will be placed in malls and the American Airlines Arena as well as Landshark Stadium. "Our goal is to go to the Aventura Mall, the Dadeland Mall, the Bal Harbor Shops, the Dolphin Mall, the International Mall, all the malls in the community and ask them to install these," said the Trust's chairman, Ron Book. "Bayside Marketplace has already committed to putting them in."

"I'm benefiting from moneys and supportive services from the Homeless Trust right now," said a self-professed successful byproduct of similar programs. "Their track record speaks for itself. I'm for what Mr. Book and the Homeless Trust is trying to do."
