Port of Miami tunnel project in the works

WEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- The Florida Department of Transportation gave the green light to the Port of Miami tunnel project Thursday.

The tunnel would run from the MacArthur Causeway to the Port of Miami under Biscayne Bay. Officials said the tunnel will ease traffic in Downtown Miami because cargo trucks will travel through the tunnel to Interstate 395 from the Port.

The construction is expected to take four to five years to complete and should open in 2015.
