Police impersonator robs man inside home

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities are looking for a dangerous police impersonator who robbed a man in his own home.

Police said the supposed impersonator handcuffed a man inside his home before robbing him Thursday morning.

The victim, 62-year-old Roland Mozard, let the impostor into his home at 419 NW Second Place after the imposter knocked on his front door at approximately 8:45 a.m. and identified himself as an undercover Broward Sheriff's Office deputy.

Mozard told police the purported swindler wore guns on either side of his belt and was speaking into a shoulder-mounted radio. He also said he had a badge on his shirt.

Mozard, who earns his living as a construction worker, said the fake cop asked him to hand over his driver's license. He then handcuffed Mozard and demanded to know where he kept his money, stealing $225 in cash and his debit card, after rifling through the victim's wallet and dresser drawers.

The thief removed the man's restraint before fleeing the scene. Now, BSO wants to know any information that could stop this dangerous thief before he repeats this crime. "Right now we don't know the motive of this crime," said BSO spokesperson Dani Moschella. "We don't know why this person would pretend to be a deputy. We don't know why he would want to rob this individual. It's a scary situation."

If you have any information on this con artist, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
