Former Miami-Dade cop gets 2 years for drug sting
MIAMI (AP) -- A former Miami-Dade County police officer has been sentenced to two years in prison for drug charges arising from an FBI undercover sting operation involving Ecstasy shipments.
Ex-cop Jorge Delgado pleaded guilty in July to aiding and abetting an attempt to possess ecstasy with the intent to distribute.
Federal prosecutors say Delgado, a three-year police veteran, admitted using his marked patrol car to protect what he thought was a shipment of Ecstasy. In return, he was to be paid $2,500. But the so-called shipment was actually an undercover FBI operation.
After his release, Delgado will be on probation for three years. He could have faced as much as 20 years in prison.
