Fuel spill on Miami River

Fuel spill on Miami River

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials are on the scene of a fuel leak that appeared near a cargo ship on the Miami River.

Several Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units and police responded to the scene, in the area of 3038 NW North River Drive, at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. A fire rescue boat could be seen moving a boom across the river to keep the fuel from spilling into the area of the nearby Jones Boat Yard.

Authorities first responded to the scene when several people complained of the strong smell of diesel fuel near the Titan Express cargo vessel. Though the fuel was seen near the ship, it remains unclear whether or not it was the source of the spill.

According to officials with MDFR, they estimate the spill to be as large as 1,000 gallons. However, the spill has not affected boat traffic.
