Big Mama kicks off her annual Turkey drive
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida woman known for helping the less fortunate is at it again just in time for Thanksgiving.
Essie Reed, also known as Big Mama, kicked off her annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive at Levelz Hair Designs in Coral Springs Wednesday. Big Mama and the Team of Life are asking the community to sponsor local schools by donating between 100 to 200 turkeys per school.
Their goal this year is to collect 20,000 turkeys. "We're asking for 20,000 turkeys, so if everybody can go out and buy Big Mama one turkey and bring it here to Lizzie, here on the corner of Wiles Road and Riverside. Drop it off here in this area, and it'll be going to one of our Broward County schools here," said Reed.
Big Mama will be targeting the Tri-County area to help needy families this Thanksgiving holiday.
