Rain storm floods Pompano Beach street
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- People are knee deep in flood waters after heavy downpours.
Shane Tucker flooded his car by driving through the scene, which covered several streets, early Thursday morning. "I just figured the water wasn't that deep," he said. "There was a little bit of a drop off, and I just got stuck about 10 feet in, and that's where I am. Luckily, my co-workers came in. They helped me pull it out."
With water dripping from his car's tailpipe, his car needed to be towed from the scene, which covered Southwest Eighth Street between North Andrews Avenue and the railroad tracks. But, by the afternoon, the waters began receding.
The flood forced one business, Whatever it Takes Transmission Parts, to close until the flood receded. Andre Davis was one of the workers who could not work because of the water. "Usually it would flood but not as bad. This is the first time that it flooded this bad," he said.
Some said it was the worst flooding in the area in 20 years. "It's pretty amazing," said Wanda Perdue. "We've seen a lot of cars towed out of here. It's pretty deep."
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue said that individual property owners and not the city are responsible for maintaining storm drains because those drains sit on private property.
