Police search for hit and run driver that killed elderly man
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for the vehicle that struck and killed an elderly man Thursday night.
According to Miami-Dade Police, the man, who was in his 70s, was pushing a cart with a broom and cleaning products down the street of 117th Avenue and Southwest 192nd Street, when a driver struck him, leaving the victim to die.
Police are looking for a vehicle described by witness as a white single cab, pickup truck with several writings on the side and yellow lights on top of the cab. "The vehicle we are looking for at this time is a white utility vehicle, truck with a yellow light on top. The vehicle fled in a southbound direction on 117th Avenue, did not stop after striking this elderly male," said Miami-Dade Detective Roy Rutland.
Neighbors said there have been at least two other recent fatalities at this same location in the past. "Within the past year, there have been two people that I know for sure, and this makes it at least three," said Stephen Giglio.
The victim was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police continue to investigate the scene.
