Police search for three men who shot a flea market customer
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- A man was rushed to the hospital after being shot at a local flea market.
North Miami police are investigating a shooting, which took place at the Seventh Avenue Flea Market Sunday. Police said 29-year-old Reginald Horenstein, who was an innocent bystander, was shot in the torso by one of at least three men.
"I pressed his groin area. It went through here and popped out through here. He was hurting, he was hurt," said one unidentified witness.
North Miami Police are not certain if any jewelry was taken off the victim, but they said the amount of robbery cases are rising. Authorities have reason to believe the men were robbing a jewelry store inside the flea market. "We've had, in Dade County, several robberies in the last few weeks where people were shot, their chains were snatched. It seems like they're after the gold.
"Whether or not they have anything to do with the gold prices going up, I don't know," said North Miami Police Lieutenant Neal Cuevas.
Many customers said they heard the gunshots and ran for their lives. "I'm so like shaken, and I just want to go home. Run for my life. All of us we're hairdressers, and we're running. Barbers running, vendors running, children being trampled over, it was chaotic," Norma said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. He was treated and then released from the hospital the following day.
Police said the three armed men disguised their identity by wearing "Jason-type" masks, of the famous Friday the 13th series of horror movies. They got away in an older-model Chevy Impala.
