Police release statements in school stabbing case

MIAMI (AP) -- A teenager accused of fatally stabbing a classmate at a South Florida high school says he wasn't threatened by his classmate before the altercation.

According to a statement released Monday, Andy Rodriguez told investigators that 17-year-old Juan Carlos Rivera looked at him with "bad face."

Rodriguez is accused of fatally stabbing Rivera during a fight at Coral Gables Senior High School in September. His attorney says he believes Rodriguez has a "solid self-defense claim."

Along with the videotaped statement to Miami-Dade detectives, prosecutors also released surveillance tapes, witness transcripts, and police and autopsy reports.

Rodriguez is charged with second-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty.
