MIAMI (WSVN) -- Authorities have arrested a 14-year-old boy for bringing a gun to school and allegedly confessing to a school staff member that he wanted to kill a fellow student.

The incident happened Thursday morning at the School of Applied Technology, located on the third floor of a building on Northeast Second Avenue and 35th Street. Police said they found the student with a piece of paper that had a teenage girl's name on it. Officials believe the paper was a hit list.

The student was brought in to a counselor where authorities said the boy admitted to the school staff member that he wanted to kill the teenage girl.

Miami-Dade Schools Police Sgt. Ivan Silva said the suspect admitted to them he was after a particular student at the school. "The student told he wanted to do bodily harm to another student," said Silva. "The officer, at this time basically checked the student's book bag and personal belongings, and he discovered a loaded 9 mm handgun inside the book bag."

The teen was then arrested.

Several students at the school said they believe he brought the weapon to school because he had been bullied. "He was bullied a lot. That's what I hear. He got bullied a lot," said a student.

Lillian Slater has grandchildren who attend the school and was upset with the news. "They're having too many shootings in school now," she said. "I'm concerned. I'm very concerned."

Police said they have not had much trouble with the charter school in the past. It has a computer-based curriculum with about 50 to 100 students.

The suspect appeared briefly in court, only to have his hearing rescheduled for later that night.
