MIAMI (AP) -- A former Miami city commissioner has pleaded guilty to a second-degree misdemeanor for helping his daughter get a $500-a-week job at a politically connected local construction company.

Angel Gonzalez pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of exploiting his public position after agreeing to resign as part of a plea agreement reached last week.

Gonzalez was a three-term commissioner representing Allapattah.

Prosecutors say he asked the head of Delant Construction about getting a job for his 28-year-old daughter. She was later hired and earned $47,000, although she never did any work.

Gonzalez will serve six months probation. He cannot run for office, or seek government work, until after 2010. He must also pay $7,500 in investigative costs.
