Crews respond to boat fire; one man escapes

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Rescue crews responded to a 30-foot boat on fire with one person on board.

The single man aboard escaped the boat fire without injuries. SeaTow and the Coast Guard rushed to the scene in the area of 79th Street Causeway to put out the flames, Tuesday afternoon.

Humberto Ramirez said the fire started somewhere inside the dash of the boat. "Smoke started coming out of the engine, and I cut everything off. Then a Good Samaritan came by, and you know, started trying to put the fire out," Ramirez said.

The boat was destroyed completely. Ramirez said he only had liability insurance and said the important thing is that he is alive.
