MIAMI (WSVN) -- Andy Rodriguez, the teen accused of stabbing a classmate to death at Coral Gables High, cried as prosecutors presented what they call a good amount of evidence against him.

The 17-year-old appeared in court Thursday morning where prosecutors with the State Attorney's Office presented the evidence against the teen, who stands accused of stabbing Juan Carlos Rivera to death at Coral Gables Sr. High School.

Detective Juan Segovia with the Miami-Dade Police Department took the stand and described what he found when he arrived at the crime scene on Sept. 15.

According to police, Rodriguez and Rivera were in a battle over Rodriguez's girlfriend. Authorities said they bumped into each other and a fight ensued. The fight ended with Rodriguez stabbing Rivera several times in the courtyard of the high school.

Both Rodriguez and Rivera's family members are present at the hearing. Those relatives included Rivera's mother who travelled from Cuba to attend her son's funeral, but decided to stay longer to see his accused killer brought to justice.

Defense attorneys said they plan to argue self-defense.
