Student allegedly attacks classmate with hair comb
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A 16-year-old is hospitalized after his fellow classmate allegedly stabbed him with a hair comb during an altercation inside a classroom.
School Police said the fight broke out between the two 16-year-olds at Norland Senior High School, located at 1050 NW 195 St., at around 10 a.m. Monday. Police said during the fight, one of the teens took out some type of hair comb and stabbed the other student.
Paramedics transported the victim to Joe DiMaggio's Children's Hospital in Hollywood where he is in stable condition.
Miami-Dade Schools Police have not released the identities of the suspect and victim, but they have charged the suspect with aggravated battery charges.
Kasha Hicks, a student at the school, said he watched as the two fought, leading one to stab the other with the sharp end of a comb/hair pick. "This boy wanted his seat, and the other boy was like 'no,' so they just started like fighting, and then it got to the point that he took out his pick and he just stabbed him in the head, and there was blood."
Authorities placed the school on temporary lockdown until they took the suspect into custody. The lockdown was soon lifted, but not before the entire incident upset parents. "I'm very sorry because it could have happened to my son," said one woman. "I'm very sorry for the issue that happened, but it's terrible."
This act of school violence comes just two months after a student was stabbed to death by a classmate at Coral Gables Sr. High School.
