Local high school holds memorial for teen

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Students at a local school held a touching tribute to a South Florida teen who was shot and killed last weekend.
Students at Miami Southridge High School performed in memory of 14-year-old Samantha Meerbott. Her parents soothing their sorrow by celebrating the things that once made Samantha smile, music, dance and drama. "They made me smile, and I haven't smiled a lot in the last three days," said Susan Meerbott.
"We needed their support. We're hurt very bad because of the senseless tragedy, and this helps us get through it," said Edward Meerbott.
Meerbott was shot when she visited a friend at their Cutler Bay home on Sunday. A 23-year-old man allegedly, accidentally fired a round from the weapon, hitting her in the stomach.
A viewing and funeral will be held for her Friday in Kendall.
