Police hope surveillance video will help catch killer

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have released surveillance video from a deadly restaurant shooting hoping it will generate new clues to a crime.

North Miami Police said the shooting occurred at 5:30 a.m. Friday, at the Royal Castle near Northwest 125th Street and Seventh Avenue. "In the early morning hours you can see that the victims in this case pulled into the parking lot and park their car," said North Miami Police Lt. Neal Cuevas, describing the video.

The video clearly captures the chilling images of the shooting as the gunman runs up to the parked car with the victims inside. "We know that the victims entered the restaurant. They then leave the restaurant, and while they're sitting in their car, the killer appears from the back side of the restaurant and fires numerous times into their car at as they're sitting there," said Cuevas.

The injured victims, a man and woman, were able to flee their vehicle and head into the restaurant. "The victims then run back into the restaurant where the male victim expires on the scene, and the female victim is transported subsequently to Ryder Trauma and is currently being treated for her injuries," Cuevas said.

Cuevas also said the video also revealed a car that might have contained a person of interest. "We notice, in the video that we have, a second car that appears to be following them in. The individual in the second car enters the restaurant that is a person of interest in this case that we'd like to speak to. He's described as a black male in his early 20s wearing a dark striped shirt and dark trousers."

At this point, police do not know what may have motivated the shooting.
