Elderly couple returns to clean home

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- An elderly couple found living in filth, are now living in a clean and repaired home.
The husband and wife were found living among dirt, rat droppings and termites. Several authorities and volunteers from across the city helped fix up and clean the couple's home. "The improvements are incredible, and the fact that this was all done by volunteer effort makes it even more so," said Shawn Parker of the Rotary Club of Miami Beach.
The elderly couple could not be any happier with their new home. "I don't have words to manifest how good I feel," he said.
"I'm grateful for everyone who came and helped out," the wife said.
Local companies donated their time and appliances, including a new refrigerator and fixtures. "When we saw the deplorable state of the refrigerator last week, our club decided together to purchase the couple a brand new refrigerator," said Parker.
"I spent about five hours just in that bathroom. That's a vintage sink with vintage faucets that had not been removed in probably 40 or 50 years," said Steve Compas of the Rotary Club of Miami Beach.
Miami Beach Police Detective Vivian Hernandez is amazed by the improvements. "It's a completely different house," she said.
