Brush fire out near Tamiami Airport

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Firefighters have put out a brush fire not far from Tamiami Airport.

The dry, chilly weather Monday afternoon lead to the dry conditions that most likely helped to ignite the fire, which never threatened any structures. The blaze somehow ignited at around 4 p.m. Monday. Investigators call the source of the fire "suspicious."

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Division of Forestry responded and had the fire out an hour and a half later, leaving 35 acres burnt. Fire crews started back fires to extinguish the flames.

The fire started at Southwest 187th Avenue and 130th Street, on the west side of a canal dividing the county and the Everglades National Park. The fire jumped the canal and proceeded to burn the wilderness on the other side of the street. About 20 firefighters responded to the scene.
