Motorcycle cop hospitalized after crash

HIALEAH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A motorcycle officer had to be rushed to the hospital after a run-in with a teen driver.
Investigators believe one of them may have run a red light Friday morning, putting the pair on a collision course, but investigators have yet to release details as to who might be to blame. "The cause of the accident is under investigation at this time, and fault is not yet known," said Miami-Dade Police Detective Rebeca Perez.
Hialeah Police and Fire Rescue responded to the accident at West 37th Street and Eighth Avenue, at around 7:15 a.m.
The Miami-Dade officer, who remains unidentified, suffered several broken bones, and rescuers had to airlift him to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Police report he is listed in serious but stable condition. "It's a sad irony that an officer who dedicated his life to traffic safety is injured in this way," said Perez.
The front tire of the car involved in the crash blew off after the impact. Johans Zolta said his 17-year-old sister-in-law was driving that car. "She said that he was coming so fast, she didn't see him coming, and she didn't know he was coming and made a left and hit him," he said.
The intersection and surrounding roads had to be shut down due to the collision, and investigators were on the scene until late in the morning. It was re-opened at about around noon time.
