Mother talks about daughter's assault

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Charges have been filed against three little boys accused of sexually assaulting a classmate with special needs. The victim's mother said her little girl will never be the same.

The mother of an 11-year-old girl, who police said was forced to perform oral sex on a classmate, said the past three weeks of the investigation have been difficult. "She's not in the same mind that she was, and right now we're in the process of getting her the help that she needs," said the victim's mother. The alleged act happened in a bathroom at Norland Elementary School.

On Wednesday, police charged three juveniles, ages 11 to 13, with the girl's assault. Authorities said an 11-year-old boy forced the victim to perform oral sex while his two alleged accomplices stood on the look out.

"You're still a kid. You're not even in middle school, so where would a child even learn something like that?" the victim's mother questioned.

The school district released the following statement: "The school's rule is that everyone must have a hall pass when leaving a classroom, and only two students are allowed in the bathroom at a time, with a teacher standing watch. On the day in question, four boys were allowed to go to their next class. The boys allegedly took a detour into a restroom instead."

The district can now be facing legal action. Ariel Saban, the attorney of the 11-year-old girl's family, said, "At this time, there's nothing to change what happened, but to make sure that we can change what happens to other people. Preventative measures."

The victim's mother said she appreciates all of the hard work the police have put into this case. "It's slow and pain, and we're not even half way there. It's a lot to put my family through, but at this time, I have to do what I have to do," she said.

The three boys in question were not taken to jail. Instead, they will face charges at a court appearance next week.
