Father and daughter rescue drowing dog
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A father and daughter who found and rescued a young dog from drowning in Biscayne Bay are trying to help find its owner.
Mike Williams said he and his daughter were fishing in the middle of Biscayne Bay on Thursday, Oct. 19, when they came upon the dog in the water. He said they found the dog disoriented and distressed and swimming in circles.
"[It was] just bobbing up and down, like a dog paddle," said Williams' 14-year-old daughter, Morgan. "It kept going under from the waves, so it was kind of drowning, I guess."
Williams' daughter nicknamed the 3-year-old female boxer "Lucky" after rescuing her. She and her father believe the dog would have drowned in the water had they not found her. "I really don't think [the dog would have survived]," Williams said. "When I pulled up to her, she had already gone down several times."
The Williams' brought Lucky to a Coral Springs animal hospital and are now trying to find her owners. The father and daughter are hoping media coverage will help, but, so far, they have not had much luck. "We're not getting any results," said Ed Mancini of the Coral Springs Animal Hospital. "It's a real nice, female boxer. It's young -- only a couple of years old -- found in the Bay. Hopefully we can reunite it with the owner."
Williams feels that he and his daughter were meant to find the boxer in trouble. "God has a plan for everybody and everything," said Williams. "So if I'm apart of that plan, then so be it."
Anyone with information on this dog or her owners can call the Coral Springs Animal Hospital at 954-753-1800.
