MIAMI (WSVN) -- Officials are questioning who could be responsible for the cruel act of injuring a pelican with an arrow.

Officials say a neighbor found the injured bird with an arrow directly in its jaw on their dock and called the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station. Police are now searching for the person who attacked the bird.

The injured bird was brought to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station located at 1279 NE 79th Street Causeway where the executive director expressed disgust with this act of animal cruelty. "Whenever I see a case of animal cruelty like this I mean it's just absolutely sickening," said Wendy Fox. "It's just -- there is no excuse for that, and these people are running around the street with all of us."

The pelican, a bird protected by the federal government, was moved to an animal hospital to be treated.

Police say, whoever shot the bird will face animal cruelty charges as well as federal charges.
