Coast Guard rescues eight people on sinking boat

MIAMI (AP) -- The U.S. Coast Guard has pulled eight people out of the water after the boat they were on started sinking about 10 miles off Biscayne National Park's Elliot Key.
A Coast Guard spokesman says a jet was diverted from normal law enforcement patrol late last night to drop a life raft. The passengers were waiting on the raft when a Coast Guard rescue vessel came to pick them up. The spokesman says there were no injuries.

The 36-foot catamaran, which had been rented, was 90 percent submerged. The Coast Guard reports that a commercial salvage company arrived at the scene to retrieve the sinking boat.
