FPL Energy buys Wisconsin nuclear power plant
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Florida-based FPL Energy is buying a nuclear power plant in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Energy Corporation says in a statement that FPL Energy has assumed management and operation of the plant. The agreement includes just under one billion dollars for the plant and its nuclear fuel and other inventories.
Under the agreement, FPL Energy will sell the entire output of the plant in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, to Wisconsin Electric Power, which does business as We Energies based in Milwaukee.
We Energies also will have the option to invest in and own up to 40 percent of any new power generation built at the site.
Juno Beach-based FPL Energy will be responsible for decommissioning the facility and the cost of that decommissioning.
FPL Energy and its parent company, FPL Group, operate nuclear plants in Florida, Iowa and New England. FPL Energy is considered the largest wind energy producer in the country.
