Police arrested CVS robber who may also be linked to other pharmacy robberies
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police arrested a masked gunman after an attempt to rob another CVS pharmacy on Monday. Authorities believe the subject may also be responsible for other convenience store robberies in the county.
Broward Sheriffs deputies arrested 27-year old Derrick Deon Pierce as he was leaving a CVS store in the 35th hundred block of North Federal Highway. Police had been watching Pierce for at least 20 minutes prior to the pharmacy incident. Officials said Pierce's license plate was covered with newspaper, and they had already spotted his ski mask.
BSO detectives suspect Pierce of robbing two 7-Eleven stores on Saturday, October 20. They say the same style long-barrel handgun was used and the suspect descriptions were similar to Monday's CVS robbery. "The subject took approximately $2,600 from cash register, and also inside the safe from the office of the pharmacy. He got into his vehicle, but one of the deputies ended up firing two rounds at the subject," said Sergeant Neal Glassman.
During questioning, Pierce Pierce told officials he needed money to purchase crack.
