South Florida bikers honor fallen police officers

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Friends, family and co-workers of former Broward Sergeant Chris Reyka gathered to honor the memory of all fallen law enforcement officers.

On Aug. 10, the Broward Sheriff's officer was killed in a Walgreens parking lot.

Seven months later, on Saturday afternoon, motorcycles revved up at the same Pompano Beach parking lot in a rally held to remember the slain sergeant.

A crowd of about 1000 showed up to the event. Some people even wore Reyka's badge number in memory of his loss. "He worked for the city for a long time. We are here for his family," said Glenn Stacey a local rider.

Members of the Reyka family felt honored to be at the event. "It's overwhelming that there is this many people that are still keeping his memory alive," said the brother of the victim, Michael Reyka.

Many gathered not only to honor the sergeant but to keep the public aware that his murder remains unsolved. Brian Donnelly, the first to arrive on the scene of Reyka's murder, organized the event and expressed a great love for his colleague. "Sergeant Reyka was not only my sergeant for four years. He was my friend. He was my neighbor, one of the best men I have ever met in my life," said officer Donnelly.

All donations raised at the event will benefit the Florida Police Benevolent Association Hope Fund and the Police Hall of Fame.
