Police K-9 once reported missing found
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (WSVN) -- A police K-9 dog once reported missing is now back home with his partner after he was found just a few blocks away from his house.
According to authorities, 19-year-old Reynaldo Farinas and his cousin Yuri Alonzo called police after they saw TV reports about the dog's disappearance. "I looked at the picture on the news carefully and about the birthmarks he had on his ear, and we knew it was him," said Farinas who had found the dog roaming in the streets.
They fed and bathed the dog, named Caine, while they had him in their care. "While he was gone, I had long sleepless nights. I want to thank everybody, thank you," said the undercover officer.
Homestead Police had enlisted the help of the public to help find their missing K-9 two days earlier. "He is like part of my family. He is like one of my own children," said the undercover dog owner.
Authorities said the 3-year-old German Shepherd went missing Sunday in the early morning hours in the area of Southwest 282 Street and Southwest 162 Avenue. Police were on the lookout throughout the day and the days after. Police had feared that Caine's agility in climbing may have aided him in his escape from his partner's backyard.
The owner of the K-9 thinks he ran away to chase a female dog.
