2 of 3 CVS armed robbers at large
HIALEAH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for two of three men suspected of robbing a 24-hour drug store at gunpoint Thursday morning.
According to Miramar Police, the three crooks walked into the CVS Pharmacy on Miramar Parkway and Dykes Road at around 4 a.m., forced the manager to give them all of the money in the store's safe and then took off.
A roadway pursuit with authorities ensued, but the trio's vehicular flight would be short-lived. "The three armed suspects fled from police in Miramar after committing their armed robbery and ended up crashing their getaway vehicle, a gray Lincoln Town Car, in the area on Hialeah Gardens Boulevard and 81st Street," said Hialeah Police Department detective Carl Zogby.
Having discovered the abandoned wreckage, officials closed down 10 Hialeah city blocks along West 33rd Avenue and 80th Street in hopes of cornering the allegedly armed men. "We have helicopters in the air, officers on foot, K-9 and several police agencies helping us," said the detective.
Locked down by the perimeter, people who live and work in the area had no choice but to wait around patiently. "I usually get to work at around 7:15 a.m.," said Amy Parrado. "When I got to work, everything was loaded with police officers."
Business owner Robert Lostell received a similar welcome. "A police officer that was guarding the entrance to Hialeah Lakes Office Park said, 'Sorry, you can't come in. The complex is closed,'" said Lostell.
Police captured one of the suspects in Hialeah, though the other two suspects remain at large and have been described by authorities as armed and dangerous. "[We are looking for] two young black males," said Zogby. "I don't have any further description, but I can tell you that I have every reason to believe that they are still armed."
Authorities took down their perimeter by noon. The CVS re-opened for business at around 10 a.m.
