South Florida family forced out by flames

PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida family is seeking shelter with loved-ones after their home goes up in flames Monday.

Fire rescue responded to the fire near Southwest 62nd Terrace and Second Court. According to authorities, a 93-year-old woman was home alone when the blaze broke out in the garage.

The woman's son was grateful that his neighbors were there to help. "The neighbor woke my mother up and got her out of the house before the fire department came," said Charles Petkevich. "I don't have any insurance. I need all of the help I can get," said Petkevich.

No one was injured in the fire.

The elderly woman, her adult son and grandson are now staying with relatives.
